Louis G. Mes, M.D.

Offered at our convenient location in Lafayette, Louisiana

Dr. Louis Mes is a native of South Africa and has lived in Acadiana since August of 1978. He married his wife, Talitha, in 1972 and has three children and four grandchildren, all of whom live in the United States. Dr. Mes finished high school in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and based on his grades, was awarded a full scholarship to medical school. He studied at the prestigious University of Witwatersrand, in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he completed his internship and residency qualifying examinations. After graduating in 1969, he traveled to England to train in general surgery, and in 1974, was elected to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, Scotland. The oldest and arguably the most famous of the Royal Colleges in Britain, fellowship is equivalent to becoming Board Certified in surgery in the United States. After successfully passing the Board Certification examinations for Plastic Surgery in 1979, he held a brief residency in Plastic Surgery in Scotland until 1975 when the University of Michigan appointed him as a resident in their program. This was an almost unheard of honor for a foreign graduate who had not come up through the American training system. Dr. Mes completed the two year residency in 1977 and stayed on for an additional year to finish a research project and to publish his findings. In his spare time Dr. Mes indulges his passions for horse riding and cabinet making and tries to spend as much time as he can traveling with his wife.
